About
Kaiserslautern Roller Derby (KRD) is a women’s flat track roller derby league based in Kaiserslautern, Germany. KRD is a member of the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). KRD travels across Europe and the UK to compete, scrimmage and train. Members of KRD have participated in the German National Championships, have been selected for Team Germany for the 2018 World Cup, and have gone on to play on top ranked teams in the USA, including Arch Rival Roller Derby, Rat City Roller Derby, and Tucson Roller Derby. KRD members are strong, diverse and dedicated to the do-it-yourself approach to this fast-growing sport. Our league includes skaters, referees, non-skating officials, and dedicated volunteers who help make our games and fundraisers possible. By day, our members are professionals, stay-at-home parents, and students. On the track, they are the competitive and athletic persona they’ve created, complete with new name and new look. If you are interested in joining the league in any capacity, please reach out via the contact form. We have classes for beginner skaters (Fresh Meat Course), for refereeing, and special sessions for non-skating officials. We also have a gear rental program available for new skaters.
League History
KRD began as K-Town Derby Girls 2010 during the international re-emergence of roller derby. In awe of this athletically redefined sport, a small group of women began meeting regularly at a local skating rink in hopes of forming a league. Most hadn’t skated since they were kids. Two members came from other roller derby leagues in the United States. Since then, KRD has continued to grow in numbers, skill, and in its understanding of this developing sport. The league rebranded to Roller Girls of the Apocalypse in 2011, and rebranded again in 2019 to Kaiserslautern Roller Derby to draw a closer bond with the local community.
