Join Our Team

Kaiserslautern Roller Derby is league owned and operated. Anyone is welcome to join!

BECOME A SKATER

Depending on the level, you may be training 2-3 times a week.

Beginner Skaters: Join our Fresh Meat course to learn the fundamentals of roller skating! Learn basic skills like stopping, falling and getting up safely, and crossovers. Then advance to greater skills such as roller derby stops, jumping, hitting and other contact-specific skills. Rental equipment is available on a first come, first served basis. Beginner skaters also serve as Non-Skating Officials for at least two home games (see below) to help facilitate game play, to help new skaters learn derby rules, and to help new skaters learn to view the game technically.

Transfer Skaters: Are you coming from another league and want to join KRD? Please contact us to learn more!

We have a rental equipment program for new skaters, which is available on a first come, first served basis. All skaters will need to provide their own mouth guard, and new skaters will need to provide a white training shirt.

The following protective gear must be worn for all practices/games:

  • Quad roller skates
  • Helmet
  • Knee pads
  • Elbow pads
  • Wrist guards
  • Mouth guard

Skating members pay 25 euro a month, which pays for training costs, travel, and other league needs. If you are not able to join the league as a skater, you may want to volunteer. Please contact us for more information.

Please download the New Skater Packet to learn more about joining.

Contact our recruiting chair to find out when our next classes begin, how to transfer or volunteer, and if we have rental equipment available. Use the contact form on this website or email recruiting [@] kaiserslauternrollerderby.org.

Become an Official

Referees: Referees will need to pass the Beginner Skater Fresh Meat course (except for contact-specific skills) before moving on to learn specific referee skating techniques, and whistle and hand signals.

Non-Skating Officials: NSOs have various roles, including as penalty timers, as score keepers, as penalty trackers, and more. New skaters are required to serve as an NSO for two home games, and all league members are expected to participate in some capacity for home games if they are not skating as players or referees (the league has 4 or 5 home games a year).

Become a Volunteer

Have a skill you would like to donate? We welcome all kinds of help! Most of those at our game are volunteers, including photographers, announcers, medics (stipends available), and more.

Please contact us to see how we can partner!
